eLDee – The Journey Thus Far [Is It Your Money Promo]

Eldee has become a music ambassador in terms of Nigerian music, well of my generation that is. I think Plantashun Boiz, D’banj, Banky W., Darey, Styl Plus but before you mention all these people I have to give major props to Olanrewaju Dabiri, best known by his stage name eLDee considering how he  has proven himself to be a force 2 reckon with.

I remember the first song that brought my attention to eLDee, can you remember Plenty nonsense?  You’ve got to say that was funny but memorable. After the Trybesmen split and eLDee went to America flash to ‘I’m Leaving’, I felt another one has gone which might just mean I’ll be hearing… s**t, f**k and all this grammar.  Nope! That didn’t happen thankfully, he released Long time coming, you know I really can’t remember that one but then one summer.

Campaigning  for a better Nigeria and a change is nothing new for eLDee he has been on it for a hot minute, can you remember  the ‘I go Yarn’ track. It made so much sense in general and I was like its about time someone said it. I was like eLDee major major major props! You should see where I’m going  with this right you got to love ‘Return of the King‘ it was a good album ‘Sun Re’ just made me cry heck it still makes me cry. And one of my favourite love songs out of 9ja is on that album ‘Ur the only one’ its perfection, pure perfection; you should actually go listen to it if you haven’t heard it.

After like 2 years of silence on eLDee’s path we got ‘Gbosi Gbangba,’ I was like he’s back finally!!! And then the song that made me just love eLDee was ‘Big Boy’, who doesn’t know Big Boy there was a time on Facebook at least 10 people had a line from Big Boy as their status…. You know stunner shades on… Prada on my back… Louis on my feet… Gucci on my wrist… I’m sure yall know the lyrics. but all I’m saying is that song made at least 100 plays on my iTunes in a week. No jokes.

In a way I was kind of wary, the album is getting too much hype, it is definitely not going live up to all this hype and, I think the first song I heard was ‘Mama (ft Keno)’ I was like awwww….. too sweet! And then ‘Go’ which I still play… and another of my faves ‘I know bad people’ and ‘Rewind’ the irony is I don’t know half of what is being said but I still love it. Isn’t that what good music is about transcending even language barriers. Well eLDee gives good music in English, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. On the whole, the album get 4 stars from me I enjoyed it although not as much as return of the King but it was still good.

eLDee is set to do something different again the much anticipated ‘Is it Your Money Mixtape’ with tracks like the already released ‘Ota Mi’ and ‘You Blow my mind’ I’m not Yoruba but I swear if Ota Mi comes on  I can sing the whole thing. The features on the album mixtape are supposed to be amazing  with amazing talent like OLadele, Aires and Proto who are all signed to Trybes records, Banky W., 2face, 9ice, MI, Omawumi, Wizkid, Skales, and Lami. This 2 CD mixtape album is the first of its kind. Singing, Rapping, Producing and also managing Trybes records how does he do it? How has eLDee stayed consistent and relevant after almost a decade in the game? My answer well eLDee is eLDee, the guy will mix Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo in one song, and I can’t really think of anyone else who does that, anyway just giving major props to someone I consider a 9ja Music legend of my generation. You can disagree if you wish but Didi has spoken, well written but you catch my drift!
