SunkeyProbably the next big thing in West African entertainment, it is my pleasure to introduce to you the delightful bundle of talent, Sunkey Daniel.

Sunkey Daniel’s debut single “Isse” released earlier was produced by DJ Groovey. An uptempo afro pop song I predict to spread like wild fire, just a matter of time.

Having a similar positive, encouraging and celebratory vibe as Korede Bello’s monster hit “God Win”, Isse as a debut single for Sunkey certainly truly puts him on the ever expanding Map of Afro pop.

He shares with us his inspiration behind the jam:
“My mum. I looked at the way she would literally break her back everyday to make things work at home…and I thought to myself , I don’t have money or anything to make her live a more comfortable life . The most I can do is say a Prayer from my heart for her … et Voilà ,Issé  a été realise .”

DJ Groovey also produced the young artist’s latest release “Little Honey”.

We asked Sunkey how the musical partnership came to be:

“I was driving when I heard this radio Interview of MsJaie with Ushbaby and some other presenter (female) and somewhere in the middle , they played her Song – Ozumba Mbadiwe . When I heard this jam, I had to park by the road side to listen . I fell in love with Her straight up and when she mentioned that the producer on that track was DJ Groovey who stays in Lekki, I had to google him. Now , I searched the net for about 2weeks before I found him on Instagram, got his address, searched it out on Google map, and waited there the whole day till I saw him…..The rest of the story, you know already. Lol.”

What was he doing before now?

Sunkey worked closely with Gospel Afro pop artist, Florocka for years:

“Florocka for me is someone I respect cos he CHALLENGES me a whole lot , which makes me become a better version of myself. Working for him made me discover a whole lot about myself and people around me . I would say he was instrumental to my growth in life generally. I learnt a lot being around him.
He had featured me on 4tracks on his latest album “The Impressions”. That is what I had been upto before I started living for me.”

His french is impeccable, that you’d have to wonder where that came from! He explains:
“Both my parents are Igbo but I was born and lived all my life in Cameroun so I know more of a Caneroonian life than a Nigerian…. but Nollywood has been my helper in learning to be more Nigerian and Igbo .”

Nollywood and its educational attributes!

Sunkey is on the path of commercial music in Nigeria, evident as he shares his dream collabs (He picks all the good ones):

“I would loooooove to work with Davido, Mr Eazi, M.I , Kiss Daniel, Sarkodie, Flavour, Yemi Alade, Wizkid ,Wande Cole, Don Jazzy, Johnny Drille, Angelique Kidjo,Patoranking,Run Town, Phyno, Olamide, ……..and the list will not finish today oooooh”

Such an impressive line up!

We wish him all the best in his endeavours as we know the industry isn’t a walk in the park. But with great mentorship and two hits under his belt, I can comfortably say Sunkey is on the right track.
