Born in Nigeria, RIZ moved to The Netherlands with his family at age 11. World traveled and fluent in five languages, RIZ has striven to achieve the pinnacle of everything he embarks on. Growing up listening to the likes of African musical icons like Fela and Maria Makeba, RIZ became drawn to the Afro melodic rhythm. This rhythmic foundation is the basis for everything RIZ does musically. Combined with the up tempo European music of the he became accustomed to living in the Netherlands, it’s no surprise that it wasn’t long before people in the industry began to notice him. He would soon join together with music producer extraordinaire and former Capitol Records A&R, Roy (Royalty) Hamilton; writer & producer of Joe’s ‘Stutter’, Britney Spears’ ‘I Got That Boom Boom’, and numerous smash hits for R. Kelly, K-Ci & Jojo, ‘N Sync & Michael Jackson. Together they collaborated on what was sure to be one of RIZ’s best songs to date: ‘Sexy Mama’, featuring platinum rapper Lil’ Zane.
Soon after, RIZ caught the ears of Akon, who was mesmerized by his creative melodies and immediately asked him to join the Konvict family. Riz began songwriting on upcoming projects for major recording artists, and in the process, met with famed artist manager and industry veteran Jimmy Rosemond (Czar Entertainment), who took interest in his work as well.
Through the years, RIZ has seen himself grow and flourish as a singer, songwriter, dancer, entertainer and individual. Drawing inspiration from the past and present- from musical greats Bob Marley, Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye & Michael Jackson to modern chart-toppers Usher, R. Kelly & Sean Paul- RIZ brings sound and substance to the title ‘Prince of R&B’.
As stated earlier, the first song RIZ worked on professionally was ‘Sexy Mama’ featuring Lil Zane. From there he went on the complete his first studio album produced by Roy Hamilton. This album included 11 original songs and a remake (Flex & Flex Remix), also produced by Roy Hamilton. This album is available on itune by searching under RIZ of by simply following the link below:
It was actually the discovery of this album by Akon that led to his joining the Konvict family. Akon had come accross the album and upon listening to it, he knew RIZ had something. So he located him and extended an invitation to attend the his (Akon’s) next concert in Los Angeles.
As soon as the duo met backstage, they instantly kicked if off and have been working together ever since.
Together they colaborated on my brand new single ‘Rock The Bed’ which is set to hit US national radio stations in mid February. The song is gaining a lot of underground buzz at several radio stations across the west coast. Fans should “expect the unexpected” when it comes to RIZ.
RIZ continues to further his international aspirations, gaining attention from major record labels. Now, entering 2009, he awaits the one thing that stands between him and his fans: Destiny.
